The other day I was talking with my oldest kid about something to do with the news. She said "It's just hard to know what is true anymore". A wave of heaviness washed over me. At this stage of my life I have the time and patience to watch and read and weigh and ponder things, and it's still hard to sort through what is fed to us and who the sources are, etc. How much more so for those who don't have the time or the band width or the interest. Today, I'm sitting in a hotel room in Quito, Ecuador with only Twitter and CNN to try to follow what is unraveling in Washington DC, in the formally Great United States of America.
CNN has it's narrative, not unexpected. but I can't get around how different the tone and verbiage is from the coverage of the rioting that destroyed so much in so many cities all summer long. Twitter shows me snippets that are laden with the opinions of each Tweeter and pictures of the "Trump protestors" who are the same guys who were features of the BLM riot photos of past months. To find what's really true will take looking carefully for facts, not opinions. And, what many have believed to be true is surely being shaken to the core.
I've listened to every conspiracy theory that I could stomach and have heard all the prognostications and projections of what would happen, if this or if that... none of that is truth.
There is one Truth alone that stands.
It will not be shaken and around it all else will fall down.
In John 8:31-32 Jesus said to the people who believed in him, “You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to the teachings in my Word and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.." If we know what Jesus taught, seek to understand it and do our best to live as it says then we know the Truth.
I'm thankful that that is all that we need to know. No where are we told that we need to know God's Word and some other theory. It is not essential that we follow any of the prognosticators or talking heads. Jesus said that "I AM the Way, the Truth and the Life" and no one comes to God but through him. ...not through Q-anon, Lin Wood or Ms. Kraken, Cuomo or Don Lemon or anyone else.
So, yes. It's hard to know what is true anymore if you are looking around you for it. But what is happening all around us was foretold by the One who knows the Truth long, long ago. ...and if you haven't read it yet, it will blow your mind. (Isaiah 3, Isaiah 5 and John 3:16 for starters) We need to know it, really know it so that we won't be caught off guard and hoodwinked and led astray.
