Doesn't our current reality feel like it has gone a bit off the rails? It seems like everything has changed and it doesn't feel good. I have been wrestling with the dis-ease of feeling out of control, even over how I live my own life.
It can feel like the world is falling apart!
Science has shown that there are actually four fundamental forces that are holding our entire world and universe together. There are the Gravitational force and Electrical force and there are the Weak and Strong forces. I was a bit surprised that gravity is actually the weakest of the four. Next is the Weak force which is exponentially greater than gravity, but it exists only in very small distances (within subatomic scale). Greater still is Electromagnetic force... the force that attracts and repels, positive and negative charges. But, the strongest by far is aptly named the Strong force. It is the force that holds protons and electrons together in the very small space of the nucleus of atoms.
In Colossians 1:15-17 it says "Jesus is the image of the invisible God, the first of all creation; for in him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible...all things were created through him and for him. He is before all things and in him (Jesus) all things are held together." This, the "all things", even applies to the structure of the atom, the elements, the building blocks of all matter. In Greek, the word for elements is stoicheion. Within the nucleus of every atom are protons, neutrons and electrons that are only held together in close proximity by the Strong force... a mysterious, external force exerted against the atom that binds it together.
Jesus, the Alpha and the Omega, the one who has been since before the formation of the earth is the Strong Force who holds everything together, from the atomic level.
But there will come a game changer... 2 Peter 3:10 says "But the day of the Lord will come like a thief (no warning, by surprise, with no prep time) and the heavens will pass away with a loud noise and the elements (the stoicheion, the very building blocks of matter) will be destroyed by fire and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare." The day is coming when the Almighty Strong Force, in whom all things have been held together will let go. He will release His mysterious, external force that holds the atoms, our world and the galaxies together.
The Almighty God is the force who describes himself in Exodus 34:6 as "the compassionate, gracious, patient and loving God". He cares for us every moment and since the beginning of time has not yet released or relaxed his strong grip on us. His hold on us 1) is for our good, 2) is patient and long-suffering, 3) is not dependent on our "goodness", 4) is the fulfillment of his plans and promises, 5) is filled with grace and mercy and 6) is initiated and sustained by his great love for us.
In a world that does seem at times like it is already coming apart WE ARE SAFE when we place our trust in The Strong Force...the force greater than all other forces, the force who promises to never leave or forsake us.
1 Peter 3:22 tells us that after being crucified and raising from the dead, Jesus ascended to heaven and sits in a place of honor at the right hand of God and everything, the angels, the viruses, the economy, all authorities and powers are in submission to him...The Strong Force. If you don't know him, if you haven't acknowledged Jesus as God and accepted his love, forgiveness and leadership in your life and put your hope and trust in him, there is no time like the present.
